Posted in Uncategorized by juanpawi on September 29, 2009

DonationIt’s been exactly 50 years since Harry Winston, the famed jeweler, donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. For this historic celebration Harry Winston Inc. designed three new settings for this special gem. The public was able to vote for their favorite design and the winning design was recently revealed. The winning design consists of three-dimensional ribbons sprinkled with diamonds that embrace the Hope Diamond. The winning design was appropriately named “Embracing Hope”. The diamond will be exhibited as a stand alone gem for the first time in history before it’s placed in the new setting.

According to different legends the Hope Diamond is cursed. According to these stories the diamond was stolen from a Hindu temple. The diamond supposedly was one of the eyes of an ancient Hindu sculpture. In order to punish the thief the temple priests laid a curse on the diamond. The Washington Post and the New York Times have reported on the curse which only popularized the alleged curse.

D.C. Fashion Week

8724_284605375156_629895156_8996557_79376_nIt’s been an exciting week in Washington. D.C. Fashion Week is like Christmas for the Fashionistas of the countries capitol city. There were numerous events at many different venues. Some exclusive, some open to the public. Some open air, and some in swanky architectural gems.

My personal favorite was the closing day. The D.C. Fashion Week ended with a bang! many Up-and-coming international designers banned together to create the ultimate fashion experience. It was no surprise that for this breathtaking international fashion experience the Embassy of France, La Maison Francaise, was chosen as the location to host this event. The creme de la creme of D.C.’s fashion industry graced the red-carpet.

Purple was definitely the season color. And if history has taught us anything is that when the economy is in the dump, people crave more glamor. And Glamor we received. The rich materials were combined with over the top theatrical designs which catered to everyone’s imagination.
